Fallbrook Music Society named Volunteer of the Year by the Boys & Girls Clubs of North County

FALLBROOK – Fallbrook Music Society has been named 2023 Volunteer of the Year by the Boys & Girls Clubs of North County. The award was presented at the recent BGCNC Diamond Gala fundraising event.

The award was presented to Janet Silver, a Fallbrook Music Society board member who is credited with creation and implementation of a new cultural enrichment partnership with the BGCNC with free, on-site high-quality music education and instruction.

The music program was launched last summer with a 7-week pilot ukulele class and was expanded during the fall 2022 and spring 2023 semesters with twice-weekly continuing ukulele lessons, Master Class performances by individuals, as well as keyboard and voice instruction.

Under Silver's leadership, the curriculum included interactive discussions of the instruments involved, how they function, make sounds, the type of music they've just experienced, and how the music gets from the music sheets to the instruments.

The entire cost of this innovative music outreach program is free of charge to students and is made possible through the generous financial support of individual donors, local businesses and organizations who play a critical role in ensuring the continued success of Fallbrook Music Society's many youth outreach music programs.

"I am so pleased to accept this award on behalf of Fallbrook Music Society and our entire team of teachers led by Barbara Jarnes, who has worked so hard to drive this innovative music education effort at the Boys & Girls Clubs of North County," said Silver. "We recognize the role that music, and the fine arts in general, play in developing cultural literacy – our new music and youth program uses music as a tool to foster creativity and self-expression in these young people," she added.

Silver is no stranger to the world of music, and she has performed several roles in her extensive musical background. She was a member of both the Laguna Beach and Huntington Beach concert bands; she served as executive director for the Dana Point Symphony; she plays flute, piano, bass ukulele, ukulele and guitar – and she teaches piano, flute and ukulele, as well.

Fallbrook Music Society is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization, currently celebrating its 45th year of presenting excellence in live music performances and youth music education to the Fallbrook and Bonsall communities.
