Fallbrook High School’s softball team was defeated by top-seeded Cathedral Catholic in the quarterfinals of the CIF Division I playoffs May 27, but not before the Warriors took the Dons into extra innings. Fallbrook won twice and lost twice in the double-elimination playoff tournament with all four games being decided by one run. VISTA – North County Road Runners have announced it will hold its 11th annual four-mile cross country race, ‘Bake at the Lake’ on Saturday, July 12 at Lake Hodges in Escondido. Fallbrook High School’s girls swim team finished sixth among Division I schools at the CIF meet May 24 at Granite Hills High School. “I was happy,” said Fallbrook coach Sean Redmond. Fallbrook High School sophomore Mikey Sykes, who was in his first year as a track and field participant, cleared 6’3” in the high jump at the CIF San Diego Section finals May 31 at Mt. Carmel High School. The distance gave Sykes a three-way tie for fifth place. Jack VanderLans won the Steer Wrestling event at the Glennville Round-Up rodeo June 8. The 2001 Fallbrook High School graduate had a time of 5.4 seconds to win the $1,034 first-place money. Last year Fallbrook High School’s boys golf team missed the CIF playoffs by one stroke. This year the Warriors won their May 21 play-in match by 20 strokes. Fallbrook High School freshman Sarah Draves won the Avocado West League diving championship May 17 while sophomore Jordann Heimback was the league’s 100-yard freestyle champion and the Warriors’ 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard freestyle relay teams were also league champions. In review, the highlights were the Division 3 level team (fifth and sixth graders) went undefeated in only their second year of competition. Many team and individual records were set in the process. The annual summer swim lessons at Fallbrook High School’s pool began June 2, although registrations for the five-day classes to be conducted in subsequent weeks are still available. “We have plenty of spots open,” said head instructor Sean Redmond.
