De Luz residents can help clean up

The 24th annual California Coastal Cleanup Day event will be held on Saturday, September 20. The event, which is organized by I Love a Clean San Diego (ILACSD) and San Diego Coast Keepers, encompasses all of San Diego County. For the kids, registration for the Kids Third Annual Coloring Contest (grades K-6 welcome) can be found at http://www.cleanupday.org.

Two of these sites will be in the De Luz area. Volunteers who want to help with the cleanup effort in De Luz can sign in at Welburn Gourd Farm, 40635 De Luz Road, Saturday from 9 a.m. until finished or at Daily Road and Jones Road in the De Luz Heights area Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to dusk.

Volunteers in De Luz will be cleaning up dumped appliances, furniture, construction materials and other trash that has accumulated along the creeks and roadsides and are welcome to spend as much time as they can spare. They should wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants and a sun hat and bring water, lunch and sunscreen.

For additional information about the De Luz area cleanup, contact Ali Nusbaum at (760) 731-0580 or Suki Glenn at (760) 728-3731.

Volunteers can pre-register on the ILACSD Web site listed above and bring a signed waiver to the check-in station. The Web site also has general information about the California Coastal Cleanup Day event, including all of the cleanup sites and sponsors.
