Plein air artist to do demo, workshop

FALLBROOK — The next general meeting of the Fallbrook Art Association will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 12, at the Hilltop Center, 331 East Elder Street.

The meeting will feature an oil painting demonstration by plein air artist Mark Kerckhoff.

Preceding the meeting, there will be an informal “Eat ’n Critique” session from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. Participants in the critique are encouraged to bring one or two “paintings in progress” and may also bring a snack or box dinner to eat during the session.

Refreshments will be served following the meeting. The meeting and critique session are open to the public at no charge.

Kerckhoff is an experienced instructor and award-winning artist with a special love of the California landscape.

He has taught workshops since 1997 and has also taught landscape painting at Irvine Valley College. He has participated in many shows and has won many awards in the Laguna Beach area.

In his teaching he emphasizes drawing, value and color. He assists students in selecting subjects, composing the painting and blocking in the main shapes of the painting.

Kerckhoff will be conducting an outdoor painting workshop in Fallbrook from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 18. Artists using any media, including watercolor, oil and acrylic, are welcome to attend.

The cost for the workshop is $30 for members of the Fallbrook Art Association and $35 for non-members. Contact Carol Reardon at (760) 731-6677 to register.
