USMC needs to put Hutchins matter to rest

The USMC’s treatment of Sgt. Larry Hutchins isn’t endearing them to the American people. Sergeant Hutchins was, and still is, a good Marine. His original conviction was overturned and he was reinstated from Private to the rank of Sergeant. The USMC has been keeping him in solitary at Camp Pendleton and, when people go to visit him, he is in handcuffs and behind glass. This conduct on the part of the Marine Corps is criminal and is absolutely forbidden in civilian prisons.

All the rest of the Pendleton 8 is out of the military and back home with their families. It is time for the USMC to put this matter to rest. They are prolonging the inevitable. It is a waste of time, energy, and money. Some of us who give money to Hutchins for phone calls home to talk to his child or his mother and father would be giving that money to our wounded warriors. This young Marine is nothing more than a political football for a bunch of dumb newspaper people and Marine Corps Generals who want to get their names in the news.

Maybe it is time to pull out the bullhorns, signs, and start picketing again at the Pendleton gate if the situation does not improve.
