Staff Sgt. Christopher Antonik killed in Afghanistan

CAMP PENDLETON - The Pentagon today announced the death of a Camp Pendleton-based Marine killed in combat in Afghanistan this past weekend.

Staff Sgt. Christopher J. Antonik, 29, of Crystal Lake, Ill., was killed Sunday, July 11 in Helmand Province, according to the Department of Defense.

Antonik was assigned to 1st Marine Special Operations Command Battalion, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, Camp Pendleton.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger issued the following statement regarding the death of Staff Sgt. Antonik.
