As President and Vice President of the Board of Directors of FPUD, we would like to apologize for the Letter to the Editor by Director McPhee (May 26, Needy FPUD ratepayers should be helped). The section McPhee quotes is from Division 6 of the Public Utility Code (the Municipal Utility District Act), it does not pertain to FPU...

Caltrans’ own D...

  • The U.S. Postal Service debacle

    Updated Jun 2, 2011

The U.S. Postal Service needs billions more to bail it out of hot water. You are probably wondering why the postal service remains in hot water. I have an answer. Another $2.2 billion lost for the first quarter of 2011. The 2.2 billion was 25 percent more than last year regardless of the economic recovery. According to Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe, “mail volume and revenues have suffered unprecedented declines since 2006.” Based on the losses for the first quarter 2011, and losses in general revenue and mail volume sin...

  • Cemetery maintenance a disappointment

    Updated Jun 2, 2011

In my opinion, the maintenance and upkeep of the Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery has worsened over the past several months. It is understandable that chores must be postponed at times due to inclement weather, but that hasn’t been the case. I have five family members buried at the cemetery and visit their gravesites regularly on birthdays and holidays. When I visited Easter weekend, the grounds were overgrown and a good majority of headstones obstructed by grass that hadn’t been trimmed in ages. Dozens and dozens of hea...

  • Funkhouser Electric saved the day

    Updated Jun 2, 2011

It was later in the evening, raining, and a holiday – Mother’s Day – when I heard a strange noise outside. When I went to take a closer look, I was devastated to find that we had an electrical problem. The problem was so severe it eventually required SDG&E to come shut off the main power. I desperately searched through the local directory to find an electrician to come see what they could do to help us out. After several phone calls and desperate messages, I finally got a call back. We would like to thank John Fun...

  • We must be caretakers, not destroyers

    Updated Jun 2, 2011

“If people do not revere the Law of Nature, it will inexorably and adversely affect them. Perhaps the recent severity of weather and natural disasters helped to reinforce this belief. With the volcanic eruptions, tidal waves, snow storms and tornadoes it makes one question, is God angry with us? “Shake, Rattle and Roll” appears to be the song...
