Margaret "Peggy" Rea

Longtime Fallbrook resident Margaret “Peggy” Rea passed away Friday, October 3, 2008, in her home in Chandler, AZ, after an intense battle with skin cancer. She was 80 years old.

Born Margaret Ann Hanson in Los Angeles on August 5, 1928, Peggy, as she was known to her family and friends, lived her childhood and early adult life in Hermosa Beach, CA, with her husband Thomas G. Rea and their eight children. The family moved to Fallbrook in 1970 and Peggy became very active in the community.

She worked as a real estate broker and volunteered extensively for numerous organizations. She will most fondly be remembered, however, for her volunteer work with Fallbrook Rainbow Girls. Even after her youngest daughter received her majority membership from the organization, Peggy continued her involvement, mentoring girls, working fundraisers and leading community service projects.

Peggy moved to Chandler in August 2005 to be close to family, but she missed her beloved Fallbrook, where she resided for 35 years.

She is survived by her children Wendy and Michael Holland, Redondo Beach, CA; Kenneth Rea, Portland; Steven and Jeanie Rea, Fallbrook; Kevin and Linda Rea, Palmdale, CA; Chris and Marcia Rea, Tarzana, CA; Curt Rea, San Pedro; and Holly Rea and Donald Harris, Chandler. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and extended family.

Her ashes were scattered Saturday, October 11, overlooking the shores of Hermosa Beach at a private service with family and close friends.
