FALLBROOK — Members and guests of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) gathered recently at a wine, cheese and fashion boutique to raise funds for the AVID mentoring program.
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a program at Fallbrook High School that encourages and prepares students for college. AAUW mentors more than 20 girls, sharing social and cultural activities with them.
To support this program several fundraisers are required and this year Donna’s Unique Boutique in the Major Market shopping center provided an exciting venue. Owner Donna Reisbeck-Stoewer arranged for AAUW members and guests to come in to the store and try on her fabulous collection of clothing, which is very appropriate for the upcoming holidays or other special occasions.
Members Chris Young, Diane Reeder and Barbara Ajello coordinated the event and modeled several items for sale. Reisbeck-Stoewer remitted 10 percent of the sales to AAUW and along with ticket sales AVID earned approximately $600. The AAUW mentor program can look forward to some exciting adventures this year.
