Rodger R. Engel

Rodger R. Engel, MD passed away on November 10, 2008.

Rodger was born on June 17, 1920, in Orange, CA. He practiced medicine as an OB-GYN in Long Beach. He moved his family to Fallbrook in 1965. He attended Graceland University and graduated from USC Medical School.

Rodger was a member of the Fallbrook Rotary Club, Land Conservancy, Tennis Club, Music Society and Fallbrook Hospital Foundation.

He was a past director of the Fallbrook Hospital, Fallbrook Citrus Association and Fallbrook Airpark.

He also was a member of many medical organizations, including past president of the Long Beach OB-GYN Society and Senior Staff OB-GYN at Long Beach Memorial Hospital.

Rodger is survived by wife Gleam Engel, Fallbrook; daughters Melinda (Forrest) Baker, Temecula, and Jill Smith, Escondido; stepson Brent (Yoko) Smith, Chula Vista; grandchildren Kelly Baker, San Diego, Brinn (Greg) Strange, San Luis Obispo, Melissa Smith, Eugene, OR, and Jamie Smith, Escondido; and step-grandchild Maya Smith, Chula Vista. He was preceded in death by brother Rodney Engel, son-in-law Bill Smith and first wife Nita Engel.

He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

There will be a private family service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the Fallbrook Land Conservancy’s Palomares House in Fallbrook.
