Party fire precautions

Cal Fire advises everyone to prevent fires before, during and after a party.

Avoid shallow foil party ashtrays; provide large deep ones. Empty ashtrays frequently in a safe place and keep wastepaper baskets, a tempting place to discard cigarettes, out of sight.

After the party, check for smoldering cigarettes in upholstery, pillows, rugs and carpets. Pick up all matches and lighters and place them out of the reach of children.
