Memories wanted

As a former student of the time, I have been given the honor of requesting any and all information about Fred and Winifred Stone (who we all knew as “Stony and Minnie Pearl”) in the 1940s, to be included in a book about them.

Winifred came to Fallbrook to teach the sixth grade in 1944 while her husband served in the Marine Corps. Upon his return he was named the coach of our high school football team and she joined him into the faculty of FUHS.

While coaching, he seemed to work magic on the students and they went on to earn the CIF Championship in 1947-1948. Many of the members of the team feel that his impression on them has been life-long.

The community took special interest in the sport and formed a “Quarterback Club” whose members were responsible for installing the first stadium lights for night games.

The Stone family is preparing a book of memories of the lives of their parents and would like any and all information of the couple to be included. We have lost Stony but Minnie Pearl is still going strong at 93.

Please send a note with your memories as soon as possible to: Stone Memories, 1277 West J Street, Oakdale, CA, 95361, or e-mail to [email protected].
