Save on energy and water

San Diego is on drought watch. Just as every drop of water residents save is precious, every “therm,” or unit of energy used to heat that water, is as well.

Everyone can do their part to save water and precious energy resources by requesting a Home Energy- and Water-Savings Kit, offered free for all residential San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) customers.

“SDG&E is always looking for ways to help customers save energy and now we’re pleased to help them save water too,” says Hal Snyder, vice president, of customer solutions for SDG&E. “Utilizing precious resources responsibly is important to all of us at SDG&E and we’re proud to help you go a little ‘greener’ in your home with this free kit.”

The Home Energy- and Water-Savings Kit includes:

• One faucet aerator for the kitchen

• Two faucet aerators for bathroom(s)

• One low-flow showerhead

• Helpful energy-saving tips

Low-flow showerheads and faucet aerators are easy, effective ways to save energy and water. These devices allow air to enter into the water stream, maintaining a high-pressure flow while reducing water usage.

Even a modest 10-minute shower can use up to 50 gallons of hot water with a conventional showerhead. A low-flow showerhead can reduce this by half or more without sacrificing the “feel” of the shower.

To order a kit, visit http://www.sdge.com/energykit or call SDG&E’s Energy Information Center at (800) 644-6133. Kits are free but the offer is limited to residential customers of SDG&E.

Only one kit per household; allow four to six weeks for delivery. For more ways to help save energy, visit http://www.sdge.com.
