Three championships for Fallbrook Fury U9

FALLBROOK — The Fallbrook Fury U9 soccer team won three tournaments and made it to the final in a fourth tournament this summer.

They came in as finalists in May’s Arsenal Cup. Then, in June, Coach Kevin Koptieff’s team began their championship streak by winning the Poway Country Shootout.

In August, they won the San Diego Premier Classic, gold division. This month, in an undefeated run, the team won the Notts Forest Labor Day Cup.

“They work as a team and come together to play,” Koptieff proudly stated. “During training they all work hard and during the games they pull together.”

In a total of 20 tournament games, the boys only lost four. By end of the Labor Day cup, the team was on an 11-game winning streak.

“Kevin is dedicated to the fundamentals and uses the boys’ abilities to their maximum potential with the occasional trick play,” commented parent and equipment manager Dominic Criscenti.

“The best thing is that the season is just beginning and the kids are already on a roll,” Koptieff said.

The team kicked off their regular season September 15. Unfortunately, their winning streak was broken by a startling loss against the Oceanside Breakers.

On Sunday, September 16, the team rebounded and won 6-2 at home against Attack.

“This team is fun to watch. These young kids know the game,” said parent Nick Thurlow.

The next home game for Fury U9 is 9:10 a.m. Sunday, September 26, at Ingold Field against the Vista Storm.

This is the second season that this Fury team has been together. Fallbrook Fury is the competitive division of Fallbrook Youth Soccer League.

Fury runs boys’ and girls’ teams from U8 to U17. For more information, visit http://www.fallbrookyouthsoccer.com.
