Sundram speaks about economy to Village Rotary

FALLBROOK — Fallbrook Village Rotary recently welcomed as a guest speaker Larry Sundram, a fellow Rotarian from the Vista club and 2011-2012 District #5340 Governor.

Sundram spoke on the economic and geopolitical development of the world since 1900. He said that in 1900 the world was at peace, Europe ruled the trade routes and Great Britain was the No. 1 economic engine of the world.

He went on to say that began to change in 1918 when World War I commenced and the United States began to emerge as a power. He described the abundance of the US’s natural resources.

Sundram traced the economic development of the United States, as well as the rest of the world, up to 2009. He showed how the United States and Russia have competed for world power status and how the US emerged as the “super power of the world.”

According to club president Steve Achard, “[Sundram] then ‘gazed into his crystal ball’ and gave us his predictions, based on past history and current conditions, of what the world will be like in 2080.”

Sundram’s credentials include a degree in financial marketing from the University of Connecticut and a master’s degree in financial marketing from the University of Niagara.

After obtaining his degrees, Sundram joined the insurance industry, working for Prudential Insurance Company. There he rose through the ranks, eventually becoming CEO of Prudential and presiding over a company with 6,500 employees and $4 billion in annual sales.

“It was a tremendously interesting and thought-provoking program,” said Achard.
