Bruce Hartcorn, owner of Hartcorn Construction, not only offers clients proficiency in the trade, but a high level of integrity and courteous care. A licensed contractor for more than 20 years, Hartcorn has established himself as a specialist in new custom homes as well as complete renovations, remodels and room additions.

A five-story beach house, located in Oceanside, is one of Hartcorn’s most recent undertakings. Literally steps away from the sand, this residence with its floor to ceiling windows, affords an unobstructed view of the Pacific Ocean.

Hartcorn, whose jobs are primarily located in the greater Fallbrook area, was delighted when the Gallade family brought him onboard for their project.

“My favorite part of the job was the view,” Hartcorn said.

Hartcorn and his crew broke ground at the 13-year old residence in May, spending the summer months working at the beach. It was a contractor’s dream job.

“This was a total interior renovation due to the fact that it was outdated,” Hartcorn said. “We brought it up to the 21st century.”

The beach house underwent an overall facelift. Similarly, what was behind the walls also required attention.

“The salt air just tore everything up,” said Hartcorn. “When we opened up walls, we saw pipes disintegrating, and behind the electrical covers, we saw rust.”

Hartcorn overcame these “salt air” challenges by determining what to fix behind the drywall and how far to take those repairs.

By October, the Gallade’s three bedroom, two-and-a-half bath beach house renovation was complete.

The kitchen was gutted and replaced with granite countertops, new cabinetry, stainless steel appliances and an eye-catching subzero refrigerator.

Some of its attractive tile flooring actually resembles wood.

“This tile looks good; it’s low maintenance and easy to clean up,” Hartcorn said.

The master suite also received an overhaul. The new spa tub, earthy granite countertops, lovely cabinetry and shower travertine tile are only a handful of the great enhancements.

Hartcorn redid three fireplaces at the residence, but the one located in the master suite is quite alluring. When lit, this gas hearth lights up a bottom layer of crystals which illuminate like diamonds.

Throughout, all flooring was replaced, bathrooms were remodeled, walls were painted and new plumbing and electrical fixtures were installed.

Hartcorn was also on hand to help the homeowner pick out items.

“I went with Marylou to the granite yards, tile stores, and helped with her appliances,” Hartcorn said.

The Gallade family is thrilled with their newly refreshed home by the sea.

“Bruce Hartcorn was an absolute angel,” Marylou Gallade said. “He was very honest and his subcontractors were wonderful; it was a pleasure to work with Bruce.”

When Hartcorn has a job, he is there on a daily basis to oversee the work. He’s the first to admit that he gets his hands dirty.

“I run the jobs and have my nail bags on most of the time,” said Hartcorn.

Hartcorn has intentionally kept his business and crew small. This way, Hartcorn says, there’s better quality control at each job site and that keeps his clients happy.

“What’s important to me is my quality of work, the timely manner it’s done in and customer satisfaction,” said Hartcorn, citing that the majority of his jobs are referral-based.

Hartcorn has broadened his construction horizons during the recession.

“We are willing to work with customers on all budgets from complete to even partial jobs,” he said. “We can do certain phases and let the owner take over from there.” Some homeowners, for example, may opt to do their own painting.

Hartcorn is delighted with the business he has grown.

“I am very happy where I am in my stage of life; I ended up doing what I set out to do and that’s being a contractor.”
