Help children learn about Jesus Christ

Jesus loves the little children; every one is precious to The One.

The disciples over time became increasingly protective of Jesus as the crowds grew and people became more aggressive to get close to Him.

I suppose it’s no surprise that when the children were brought to Jesus for a blessing, (Matthew 19:13-15) that the disciples attempted to keep them back.

Jesus invited them nonetheless. Jesus never held them back… from anything.

God wants to account for every child under heaven. God wants our commitment to help bring them to Jesus. God wants them all to be honored and welcomed into the arms of Jesus. They all have a right to God’s blessing. When Jesus said, “let the little children come to me, and do not stop them…” He wanted us all to know that they are welcome to participate fully in their journey of faith…Yes, even when they cry in church or wander curiously up to the altar in the midst of worship. Jesus said that the kingdom of heaven belongs to them. “Such as these” means those who are ready to accept him as Lord. Children, without all the life experience to muddy their view of God, have a fresh perspective and believing hearts. More importantly they are a soul waiting to be welcomed into the Kingdom of God. C.S. Lewis once said, “You don’t have a Soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.” We don’t baptize an intellect, we baptize a soul.

The soul is always ready for God. And so we baptize the babies, because Jesus said “to them belongs the kingdom of heaven.”

Encourage parents to bring the little children forward so that the Lord can hold them in the palm of his hand. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Welcome them to the kingdom, bring them to church so they can learn, come yourselves so you can learn and teach. God has more to offer, as if eternal life were not enough, to all ages. But God wants to offer abundant living to all ages, old and young, in this life right now; abundant living steeped in a relationship with Him. Won’t you help God account for every one?
