FALLBROOK - Over 100 women, including 13 from Fallbrook, attended AAUW’s San Diego County Inter-Branch Conference at the Escondido Country Club on Jan. 30.
San Diego’s Girl Scout President, Solveig Deuprey, was the keynote speaker.
Deuprey stated that the Girls Scouts are celebrating their 90th anniversary. In 1912, Julie Gordon Lowe sold her pearls to begin the Girl Scout movement. She said that Lowe pioneered efforts for gender equality, much like the American Association of University Women.
The Girl Scouts encourage young women to risk such activities as mountain climbing and back packing, which help them take chances in life. Deuprey tells her girls, “You can do it.” She says, “Never let anyone tell you that you can’t.”
Girl Scout cookies went on sale on Jan. 31.
