“He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding is of a calm spirit.” -Proverbs 17:27
When a person has a good understanding of a subject, they have a calm spirit because they know that they are on solid ground, and can speak on a subject with authority. They often speak without using superlatives and inflammatory words.
With some people, the less they know about a subject, the more they go on and on. It is obvious to everyone around them that they know little, are in over their head, agitated by their uncertainty, and what is coming out of their mouth may lack validity.
People love to talk, so how can we discuss a subject on which we may not be an expert? One way is to admit that lack of knowledge to begin with and approach a discussion of subject with an open attitude. Perhaps in the discussion process more will be learned by listening to another’s viewpoint and by asking questions that will spur everyone on to ponder further. A possible result may be that each person will add to their knowledge, or be challenged to look deeper into a subject.
Action: Listen and speak with care.
