Fallbrook Pop Warner All-American travels to Pennsylvania

FALLBROOK - Each year, the most academically accomplished Pop Warner kids compete for Pop Warner Academic All-American status. Known as the “Little Scholars” program, the process begins at the association level and up through each of the eight Pop Warner regions to the national level.

In 2009, over 400,000 kids participated in Pop Warner. Out of those who competed for All American status, only one percent can be selected. The PWLS program requires a minimum of 96 percent GPA to be eligible for All-American status. If selected, each Little Scholar All-American is then commended and recognized on a National level.

As a result of being selected to the All-American team, each player is invited to the Annual Scholar All-American Awards Tribute and Banquet where the Pop Warner community comes together to recognize and honor the kids who made the team.

This year the 50th PWLS banquet was held May 28 and 29 in Philadelphia, Pa. Local Pop Warner player and All American, Charles Bickel was one of 22 representatives from Fallbrook who attended the event where more than $100,000 in scholarships was awarded to selected student athletes.

“It was awesome being recognized nationally for Pop Warner Little Scholars.” said Bickel. “[We] got autographs from a bunch of NFL football players including Pierre Garcon from the Indianapolis Colts. It was a great experience! I really hope I get to go next year.” Kevin Kolb (Philadelphia Eagles), Sinorce Moss (NY Giants), and Daniel Sepulveda (Pittsburg Steelers) were also among the NFL players in attendance.

Fallbrook Pop Warner is still taking late registrations. Visit for registration information.
