Camp Pendleton fire sends smoke into Southwest Riverside/Fallbrook area

Smoke from a 150-200 acre fire in the Aliso Canyon area of Camp Pendleton has blanketed Southwest Riverside County. Murrieta Fire Department information officer Matt Corelli said anytime the Pendleton area has a large fire they receive many calls from concerned residents.

Corelli said Chief Wilkerson, from Camp Pendleton Fire Department confirmed the fire via phone. Corelli said the fire was reported around 4:00 p.m. but could not confirm containment but says among the equipment fighting the blaze are two hand crews, two strike teams, and 10 engines.

CalFire Riverside County information officer Captain Fernando Herrera said their department is wrapping up a 45-acre fire in Homeland that could’ve easily gotten out of control. Herrera said fire was reported shortly before 7:00 p.m. and thanks in part to quick air support is now fully contained.

Camp Pendleton personnel did not want to give any information regarding the fire.
