Bonsall resident, former pro wrestler Goldberg visits Miramar for Military Appreciation Day

Former professional wrestler Bill Goldberg, who lives part-time in Bonsall, spent part of June 3 at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar as part of Military Appreciation Day on the base.

Between 1,500 and 2,000 active-duty Marines joined in the two-hour Military Appreciation Day which included Goldberg and seven mixed martial arts fighters. “It went extremely well,” said

Nicole Wright, the special events coordinator for Marine Corps Community Services at MCAS Miramar. “It was one of the biggest turnouts we’ve had in a long time.”

Military Appreciation Day also included food and beverage booths at which sponsors provided free food and drinks to the Marines. The activities also included exhibits, games, and prizes. “It was a great morale booster,” Wright said.

Goldberg mingled with the Marines, signed autographs, and posed for photos. He was also given a plaque of appreciation, as were mixed martial arts fighters Dominic Cruz, Phil Davis, Junior Dos Santos, Jason Lambert, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, and Brandon Vera. The mixed martial arts fighters provided demonstration techniques during Military Appreciation Day.
