Multiple recycling events scheduled for September 25

FALLBROOK – Local residents will have a once-a-year opportunity to participate in multiple recycling events all on the same day, Saturday, September 25. Residents can recycle their E-waste, have their computer hard-drive “destroyed” before recycling, shred old paperwork, recycle their cell phones to benefit military personnel stationed abroad, recycle old tires, dispose of used household batteries, and dispose of car and industrial batteries.

All these activities, except for the car/industrial battery event and the tire recycling event, will take place in the dirt parking area at the corner of Pepper Tree Lane and South Mission Road between 9 a.m. and noon. The car/industrial battery event will take place during the same hours at BP Batteries at 805 E. Mission Road. The location for the tire recycling event, being sponsored by the County Department of Public Works, will be announced soon.

Residents may also take advantage of the very popular free paper shredding event sponsored by Thomas Caso of Shred-It of Vista, (760) 598-5700. Residents may actually watch as their private papers are being shredded on the spot. The Shred-It folks will also offer free destruction of all information on any hard drive brought in to the E-waste recycling activity. (Residents need to remove the hard drive from their computer and bring both items separately to this event.)

The cell phone recycling activity is organized by the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 1924. Every cell phone they recycle generates an hour of talk time for a soldier abroad.

The battery collection feature, sponsored by Dave Gleason of BP (Battery Pros) Batteries, (760) 723-1773, provides a unique opportunity for residents to recycle industrial and automobile batteries, heavy equipment batteries or solar batteries at BP Batteries. (Household drycell batteries will be recycled at the dirt lot location.)

All the recycling events are limited to individuals and are free to North County residents; no materials will be accepted from businesses. Businesses should contact the participating recyclers directly to schedule an appointment.
