Fallbrook Music Society presents Fallbrook favorites

FALLBROOK – Fallbrook Music Society presents Fred Benedetti and George Svoboda as this month's featured ensemble. Well-known to the Fallbrook community, Benedetti and Svoboda perform regularly at the Fallbrook Public Library and have been part of the Fallbrook Music Society's youth education outreach program in local schools for many years.

"We are excited to present these incredibly popular musicians," said Bob Freaney, president of the Fallbrook Music Society Board of Directors. "Fred and George put on a terrific show and always choose music that is accessible, diverse and entertaining. I know our patrons will enjoy this concert immensely," said Freaney.

The classical guitar duo has deep roots in the San Diego community. Benedetti has played locally with the San Diego Symphony, the San Diego Opera, the Starlight Opera, the American Ballet Company, the Old Globe Theatre, Luciano Pavarotti and jazz artist Dave Brubeck. He is a full-time professor of music at Grossmont College where he is the head of the guitar studies program.

Born in Cheb, Czechoslovakia and now residing in San Diego, Svoboda received his bachelor's degree in music at San Diego State University in 1996 and his master's degree in music in 1998.

Svoboda has also been actively involved in teaching for over 40 years and is currently a tenured professor at San Diego Mesa College. He too performs regularly with the San Diego Symphony, the San Diego Ballet, the Young Artists Symphony and the San Diego Opera.

"We're just happy to have the opportunity to play together," said Benedetti. "These are difficult times as we all know, and George and I look forward to providing some small respite in the best way we know how."

For the Fallbrook Music Society Concert, Benedetti and Svoboda present a program of Spanish classical and flamenco music, as well as some Eastern European selections and original music. Composers include Rodrigo, Granados, Serrano, Piazzolla, Benedetti & Svoboda.
