Democratic Club joins drive for Food Pantry

FALLBROOK — As the economic crisis has hit families across the nation, many more people are going hungry and food pantries are strained to help people in need. Fallbrook is feeling the pain as well.

The number of people showing up hungry at food pantries and soup kitchens has surged, straining the capacity of many organizations in the vast, largely unseen and lightly financed network of volunteer emergency feeding operations. Many are newcomers who were reluctant to seek help until they had no choice.

The Fallbrook Democratic Club joins in the local drive to help people in need in this Christmas season. All members are urged to bring food parcels and goods to the regularly scheduled meeting December 4 at the Fallbrook Public Utilities District meeting room at 990 East Mission Road. The meeting begins at 7 p.m.

The Democratic Club will launch a second food drive on December 12 at the Holiday Potluck Party at the home of Jon and Anna Monday at 6 p.m. RSVP to (760) 451-1959. For potluck suggestions, phone Michele Bain at (760) 731-1324.

Newcomers are invited to join in the food drives and meetings.
