Fallbrook resident Robert Koga, an instructor and inventor of modern officer safety, walks into a surprise tribute put on by more than 300 students, friends and family at the Long Beach Hilton on August 8. Known to his students as Sensei Koga, he retired from the LAPD in 1979, after 25 years of service, and took his Koga Method of officer safety to other departments training officers all over the US, Canada, Asia and Saudi Arabia as well as several elite military units.
