The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) board approved a list of 26 projects to be requested in the fiscal year 2011 federal transportation appropriations cycle, and the widening of State Route 76 was among those projects.

SANDAG’s January 22 approval of the request includes seeking $9 million to widen Highway 76 between Melrose Drive in Oceanside and Interstate 15. SANDAG has requested a total of $736.55 million for the 2009 federal appropriations cycle.

SANDAG provides an annual list of transportation projects to submit to the county’s congressional delegation for funding consideration during the annual congressional appropriations process, and the list of approved projects will be provided to San Diego County’s Congressional delegation.

The federal transportation appropriations process for fiscal year 2011 is expected to begin in early 2010, and congressional passage of the fiscal year 2011 transportation appropriations bill is anticipated by the end of calendar year 2010.
