Workshop offered for small business contractors interested in bidding on government projects

San Diego County Supervisor Bill Horn and San Diego North Economic Development Council will team up on Thursday, May 13, 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sheraton Carlsbad, 5480 Grand Pacific Drive, Carlsbad to present a session entitled ‘Big Workshop for Small Business Contractors.’

The workshop is designed to provide “insight and ideas for landing contracts with the state and federal government” and provide an opportunity for networking and registration for the Airport Authority’s Green Build Project, Camp Pendleton, and Caltrans projects.

Horn explains the necessity of the workshop as follows, “the construction industry in San Diego County is at a virtual standstill and few projects are on the horizon except for government agency contracts.”

Horn said currently, there is more than $8 billion allocated for construction projects, many of which are in North County.

“It’s my goal to bring contractors together for a high-powered, half-day event and have them leave with the tools they need to get their businesses back to full speed,” said Horn.

The workshop was funded by a grant from the County of San Diego at the request of Horn and is free to the public. The half-day event is offered through local organizations with projects and funding, including the San Diego Regional Airport Authority, Camp Pendleton, Caltrans and the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG).
