Grimes named FUHSD Teacher of the Year

FALLBROOK – The Fallbrook Union High School District has named Paul Grimes, mathematics and computer teacher at Fallbrook High School, as the 2010 Teacher of the Year. Grimes joined the district in 2005.

Grimes, who has been a secondary teacher since 1996 and currently teaches algebra, geometry, accounting, and introduction to computers at Fallbrook High School, was recognized by the board of trustees at its May 24, 2010 meeting.

At the meeting, Dale Mitchell, superintendent, cited Grimes’ ability to actively engage his students in their learning of math by utilizing computer software and individualized instruction to open their minds to the principles of math and its applications in their daily lives.

First and foremost in Grimes’ teaching is his commitment that each of his students will feel successful. As they master each concept, their names and achievement are placed on the wall in the classroom. The visual reminder of the successes of their peers serves as a great motivator for students who doubt their ability to learn the subject matter.

Grimes said, “My ideal day is everyday in the classroom. I don’t just feed students information, I make them mathematicians.”

Mitchell said FUHSD was “proud to recognize Paul Grimes for his commitment to student learning and utilization of 21st Century Learning skills.”
