Animal Sanctuary cookout includes entertainment

FALLBROOK – The community is welcome to the VFW fundraiser for the Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary on Saturday, July 17, at 5 p.m. for hamburgers, veggie burgers, all-American side dishes, dessert and door prizes. The cost is $12 and also includes an opportunity to hear cabaret singer Gigi Eckels, formerly Gigi Galon.

She made her professional debut on “The Tonight Show” in the mid 60’s and went on to open for such stars as Engelbert Humperdink and sing solo in supper clubs and military bases in her own one-woman show worldwide.

Having retired and moved to Fallbrook with her husband Kenny in 1997, Eckels spends most of her time volunteering at the Angel Shop and at the Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary. Few people at the animal sanctuary, where she serves as volunteer coordinator, even know of her previous singing career.

“It’ll be my pleasure to sing and see friends and folks in Fallbrook come and just enjoy themselves and know all the proceeds are going to these beautiful needy animals. We need every penny we can get. I hope it helps us recruit new volunteers, too!” Eckels said.

To reserve a table for the animal sanctuary’s All American Cookout fundraiser, call (760) 728-5332. The event is at VFW Post 1925 located at 1175 Old Stage Rd.
