  • Questions for Mr. Hahn

    Updated Aug 28, 2007

While the outcome of the Iraq War and whether global warming is fact or fiction remain to be seen, there is one thing that is entirely predictable: if anyone condemns the Bush Administration in the Village News “Opinions,” he must expect to be scorned, if not burned at the stake. Mr. Hahn lived up to my expectations [“I say Wright is wrong,” 8/16/07]. The surprise is that I agree with his opinion regarding the global warming Live Earth concerts. However, I do question a few of his other ideas. I wonder why a resident of beau...

  • Fallbrook has some very fine letter writers

    Updated Aug 28, 2007

If you want to know what people in Fallbrook are thinking, you read the letters to the editor of the Village News. Because Fallbrook has so many skilled writers, I anticipate the arrival of the Village News every Thursday. The August 9 edition was perhaps the best collection of letters ever. Jack Ragland’s letter, “Everyone should say ‘NO!’ to proposed Liberty Quarry,” proves that our most eminent local artist is a skilled writer also. His painting of the Santa Margarita Ecological Reserve articulates a deep spiritual...

  • Dominoes or house of cards?

    Updated Aug 28, 2007

If you’ve been watching the financial markets lately, you may have noticed that the Federal Government has been giving out more corporate welfare dollars. $10 billion here, $10 billion there; pretty soon it adds up to real money – over $60 billion in the last two weeks were pumped into the market to support collapsing hedge funds and mortgage-backed bonds held by investment companies. (Wish the government would help me out with healthcare costs.) God forbid that the government should help the poor or middle class, but if cor...

  • A message to those who litter

    Updated Aug 28, 2007

Hey, you who throw trash as you pass Through the roads in our beautiful town, Give a thought to the rest who rise to the test Removing your trash all around. It’s all futile, it seems, when our roads and our streams Refill with the litter you toss. Give a care to your purse as the problem gets worse And paying taxes puts you at a loss. Think first. See that trash can just two feet away. Don’t drop it to fall where it may. Be thoughtful, responsible, a sensible citizen, Take that extra step – dispose the right way. Jacki...

  • If they have nothing to hide, let out the facts

    Updated Aug 28, 2007

For those who don’t know this, the actual wording in the official autopsy of Pat Tillman was that he “suffered three bullets to the head at close range.” That is certainly different than the first story the US Army released, and it sure sounds different than their second explanation that he was “killed in action by friendly fire.” Notice that the traditional press and TV news does not carry these details, probably because the administration has advised them that if they dwell on this, they will not have future access for more...

  • An open letter to parents of FUHS students

    Updated Aug 28, 2007

Dear parents, Summerhill Lane is a “private road” that is maintained by all the residents who live on this street. The county does not maintain it; we have to pay for this road to be resurfaced and maintained. This street is private; it is not open for public use at any time, which also includes parking for football games, high school graduation and night school. What you are doing is considered trespassing on private property. Your children’s safety should be your main concern. By dropping your child off on this side of th...
