Millers celebrate 60th anniversary

Bob and Saranda Miller celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 23, 2006. Bob, born in California, met Saranda from Pennsylvania while attending the University of Pennsylvania veterinary school. They were married in Brodbecks, PA, on June 23, 1946.

They came to Fallbrook in 1948 and established the first veterinary practice in the small rural town. Saranda worked as Bob’s veterinary assistant and secretary for over 25 years, taking a 15-year period off to raise and nurture their family. They have three children, Mellouise Curry of Graeagle, CA; Kathy Wilson of Caldwell, ID; and Bob Jr. of Fallbrook. They also have five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Bob and Saranda played a great part in leading youth activities in Fallbrook, in which their own children were also involved. Bob was a Scoutmaster for over 10 years. He and his wife also supported the FFA and 4-H programs by giving lots of time and professional help with the animal projects.

Saranda retired in 1983 and Dr. Bob retired in 1984 after 38 years of veterinary practice.

Asked the secret of their long marriage, they said it was “teamwork with the whole family.” They all worked together and played together. Many summer vacations they spent in the High Sierras camping and fishing as a family.

Bob and Saranda are now still enjoying traveling, camping, fishing and local volunteer work.
