Bring the troops home

Senator Kunichi (Dem.) has declared his candidacy for President of the USA in ’08 and was one of the few with the moral courage to stand against Bush’s war with Iraq from the very beginning. It’s taken three years for the rest of both houses to come around to a similar point of view. The recent US elections demonstrated to those politicians that it was now “safe” to also oppose the war. What a bunch of spineless public servants!

What is troubling, however, is that even now, neither of the party’s leadership have the moral courage to condemn the war outright! Why don’t they demand that the $70 billion already in the pipeline be used to bring the troops home from Iraq? Instead, the new House and Senate leadership appear likely to approve of a further $120 billion to keep the war going. And all because they don’t want to appear unfriendly to the troops in the field.

Well, I don’t want to shortchange the troops in Iraq either, so bring them home and out of harm’s way. We have no moral responsibility toward Iraq – we shouldn’t even be there! The only ones to gain from a further $120 billion expenditure are the ‘fat cats’ of the military/industrial complex – they want more of that pie. They don’t care about the poor ‘grunts’ on the ground. Take off the blinders, America!
