Fry, Gutierrez graduate from fire academy

Daniel Fry and Patrick Gutierrez, both 2006 graduates of Fallbrook High School, graduated as California State Certified Firefighters on December 5 from the San Pasqual Reservation Fire Academy.

Fry and Gutierrez were among a class of 12 graduates of the sixth graduating class from this state-accredited academy.

They were trained in all aspects of firefighting and each received 12 certificates of competency in addition to their diplomas.

Fry has been on the De Luz Volunteer Fire Department for four years and was a part of the small team of De Luz volunteers that fought the fire at the Valley Oaks Mobile Home Park last October.

He received his Emergency Medical Technician certification last June.

Daniel is the son of Jack and Mary Fry of Fallbrook. Jack Fry is a captain for the Los Angeles City Fire Department and has been with LAFD for 28 years.

Gutierrez is in the Marine Corps Reserve and took time away from his training and studying for the fire academy to continue his reservist’s duties.

He is being deployed to Iraq in September for nine months. Upon his return, he plans to complete his EMT training and is looking forward to becoming a full-time firefighter.

Patrick is the son of Sharon and Oscar Gutierrez of Fallbrook.

Fry and Gutierrez became friends through the Ag Department at Fallbrook High School and both were involved with FFA.
