And for those homes that are not in the stress-sale category, prices are also low right now. People who could not afford the home of their dreams three to five years ago can now, in many cases, afford to buy it, Gahner said.

Recently, Gahner was able to make a transaction for a Marine who had just returned home from Iraq. “I worked with him and his wife a few years ago and I couldn’t get him a home because they couldn’t qualify for a loan,” she said. “It just broke my heart because they were out there fighting for our freedom.”

Because of the drastic reduction in home prices, this Marine has now been able to qualify for a lovely home in Murrieta. “It was a wonderful day when I handed this family the keys to their new home.”

When searching for a Realtor, said Gahner, it’s important to have someone who will take the time to show a client every single home that one can afford. There are a lot of homes out there and much to sift through.
