Rock Candy Mine topic for FGMS

FALLBROOK — The Fallbrook Gem & Mineral Society will gather October 8 at 7 p.m. in the meeting room at 123 West Alvarado Street.

Guest speaker will be Mark Mauthner, a freelance mineral consultant and former director of the Pacific Northwest Museum in Vancouver, BC. He will be giving a presentation on the making of the film “Rock Candy: A Story on Mineral Collecting.”

The film was produced by Joe Nagel but Mauthner participated in all aspects of its production. He will talk about making the film for about 20 minutes and then will show the DVD of the film itself.

The Rock Candy Mine is a celebrated mineral locality in Canada well known for its beautifully crystallized fluorite and barite, highly valued by mineral collectors and museums around the globe. The public is, as always, welcome to attend the meeting.
