Warrior golfers split first week's matches

Fallbrook High School’s boys golf team opened its season March 3, losing that day’s match to Dana Hills but defeating Vista in a March 4 match.

The Warriors lost to Dana Hills by a 204-211 score on the Monarch Beach at the Links course while taking a 200-225 victory over Vista at the San Luis Rey Downs course. In both matches a Fallbrook player had the low round for either team.

“In my mind this team could be a team that scores in the 190s regularly,” said Fallbrook coach Steve Jorde. “If you do that you have a real good chance to be in most matches.”

High school golf matches involve six golfers from each school. The top five nine-hole scores comprise the team total.

Fallbrook senior Garet Johnson had the low score for either team at Monarch Beach, shooting a 38 over nine holes. Sophomore Seth Jorde took 41 shots, junior Roman Rogers required 43 strokes, senior Zach Kramer had a score of 44, and junior Lloyd Ewers utilized 45 shots. The match was the first on the Monarch Beach course for Rogers, Kramer, and Ewers. “It’s a difficult golf course,” Steve Jorde said.

At San Luis Rey Downs the low score was the 37 shot by Seth Jorde. Ewers had a score of 39, Rogers took 40 shots, Kramer completed the nine holes in 41 strokes, and freshman Braden Koran’s first high school match produced a score of 43. “They really played well at Bonsall,” Steve Jorde said.

Last year the Warriors’ leading scorer, 2009 senior Andy Wood, averaged 39.1 shots per nine holes.

“We’re just looking forward to the year,” Steve Jorde said. “We’ll definitely compete.”
