Angels' philanthropic gifts exceed $10,000 in August

FALLBROOK – A total of $10,600 in donations to community groups was approved by the board of directors of the Angel Society of Fallbrook at its meeting in August.

Topping the list of recipients was the Fallbrook Food Pantry with $5,000 to help the non-profit group supply nutritious food to more than 60 needy families each week. Many of its recent clients include those who have lost their jobs and seniors who are struggling to make ends meet.

An amount of $2,000 each was approved for Fallbrook High School’s Asperger’s Center and the Fallbrook Chorale. The center offers a program designed to meet the needs of high-functioning autistic students. The chorale group performs locally and often sings inspirational music.

Another $1,000 was earmarked for People to People, a local agency offering free employment services.

In addition, two local sports groups were awarded $300 each. They are the Fallbrook Youth Soccer League, which offers scholarships to financially needy families; and the Fallbrook Girls’ Rugby Club, which was established in 2008 and consists of three teams for girls ages 18 and younger.

In addition to its monetary philanthropy, the Angel Society also donates recycled goods. Formal wear and accessories, more than 85 items in all, were recently collected by the Angels for the annual Ball Gown Giveaway at Camp Pendleton. The event, which is held every September, offers the military and their spouses the opportunity to choose an outfit to wear to special occasion events, including the Marine and Navy Balls.
