Two Fallbrook residents surrendered today after being contacted by a Sheriff's detective regarding a theft of merchandise from a local Radio Shack store.
Nora Escobar, 33, and Chris Hawkins, 26, had entered the Fallbrook Radio Shack store, located in the 1000 block of South Mission Road on Monday, Sept. 6 about 2:15 p.m. While there, Escobar reportedly picked up a 24-inch flat screen color television set from a display area and walked out of the store with it without paying.
"She then placed the television in her car where she met with Hawkins again," said Lt. Mike Barnett, commander of the Fallbrook Sheriff's substation. "The suspects drove away from Radio Shack and parked in front of a nearby business where they were confronted by a Radio Shack employee."
The suspects then sped off in the vehicle and were last seen driving westbound on Ammunition Road.
Meanwhile, the store employee made a note of the vehicle's license plate number.
Detective Dan Laibach was assigned the investigation and contacted the suspects by telephone.
"[Escobar and Hawkins] surrendered at the Fallbrook Sheriff’s substation September 9," said Barnett. "Both were booked into the Vista Detention facility for Burglary and Conspiracy to Commit Theft."
Barnett said that Escobar had an outstanding arrest warrant pertaining to a different case and was booked on that as well.
