Two microquakes reported near Anza

ANZA - Two microquakes rattled the southern Riverside County crossroads of Anza, according to automated seismographs and computers operated by the U.S. Geological Survey.

A 1.5-magnitude quake occurred at 6:40 a.m roughly 12 miles northwest of Anza, followed by a 1.8-magnitude quake at 9:51 a.m. roughly 5 miles northeast of Anza.

The two small quakes come a day after a 1.0 magnitude shaker was recorded 2 miles northeast of Anza.

The quakes were far too small to cause damage.

4.9 earthquake in Mexico felt in El Centro

SAN DIEGO - A magnitude 4.9 earthquake that stuck near Guadalupe Victoria, Mexico, this morning was felt in El Centro but apparently caused no damage north of the border.

The earthquake struck at 4:52 a.m., about 20 miles south southwest of Guadalupe Victoria, Mexico, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It was apparently another aftershock from the magnitude 7.2 quake on Easter.

''It felt like it was rolling the building for a few seconds,'' El Centro Police Department dispatcher Kristi Davis told City News Service. ''It was roller, not a shaker. Just a couple seconds.

''I see it was a 4.9, and we sometimes get calls on ones that big. But we didn't get any 911 calls on this one.''

The quake, which was followed by magnitude 3.2 temblors at 4:01 p.m. and 5:47 a.m. in the same area, was not felt in San Diego, said San Diego police Sgt. Ray Battrick.
