Pendleton officials break ground on new water treatment project

CAMP PENDLETON – A groundbreaking event was held April 1 for Camp Pendleton’s new Advanced Water Treatment System (AWTS).

The $46.3 million state-of-the-art AWTS will help Camp Pendleton adhere to the new state initiative to improve water quality standards.

Filtration systems and domestic water softeners, often found in many base homes, will no longer be needed due to the new system, saving base residents money.

While the current product is both safe and compliant with state requirements, Camp Pendleton will soon have the highest quality water in San Diego County as a result of this project. The AWTS is scheduled to be completed in December 2012.
