Car fire shuts down two lanes of I-15

TEMECULA - A car was engulfed in flames on the northbound side of Interstate 15 just south of Temecula city limits today, causing lane closures and snarling traffic into San Diego County.

The California Highway Patrol was informed around 4:10 p.m. that flames were coming from underneath a Toyota Camry pulled over in the median past the Rainbow truck scales.

Within about 10 minutes, the car was engulfed, dispatchers were told.

Everyone was able to get out of the car in time, and no one was injured, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Tawny Cabral confirmed.

The two left lanes of the northbound freeway were closed while firefighters worked to put the blaze out and CHP officers waited to get the car towed away.
