Prohibition Brewing Company seeks spot in Fallbrook

The multiple award-winning Prohibition Brewing Company wants to pour its beer in Fallbrook.

"Prohibition is looking to expand into the Fallbrook area and open a tap room," said Kyle Adams, general manager of Prohibition Brewing Company and a Fallbrook resident. "It would be our second location."

Prohibition operates the popular brewery/restaurant Prohibition Brewing Co. Pub and Grill in Vista (2004 E. Vista Way). Prohibition is a family-run business that was founded in 2011 by Adams' parents, Ron and Kathy Adams.

"We are one of Vista's original breweries," said Kyle Adams. "We've won several awards for our beers, including three gold medals at the international beer festival at Del Mar."

Adams has been looking for a space in downtown Fallbrook to open the tap room, which he said would be a "minibar with bar style seating and additional tables and chairs for groups."

"Right on Main Avenue," said Adams of the preferred location for the tap room. "I have been looking at pretty much any place that's available and seeing what's easiest or what is going to take the least amount of remodeling and reconstruction."

The tap room will serve only Prohibition brews and offer beer for both on-site consumption and beer to go.

"You could come in and get a couple of beers, and you can also get bottles or growlers or kegs of beer to go," said Adams. "You can also get keg equipment."

Adams said Prohibition offers 15 to 18 different styles of beer and "ideally" they would all be available at the Fallbrook location.

Although the tap room won't offer food, customers would be allowed to have food brought in.

"My intention is to just open a Prohibition Brewing tap room and then partner with any local restaurants to allow that food in, sort of as a cross-promotion," said Adams.

Adams has lived in Fallbrook for five years and said he is anxious to become involved in the community.

"I really like the historical value of the community," said Adams. "I enjoy the community and I want to help grow the community and bring business into the community."

Adams said Prohibition is hoping to have the tap room open early next year.

"Once I find a place it'd probably be in the realm of four to six months (before opening)," said Adams. "I know the alcohol permit process is that duration of time, and during that time I could remodel or do things with the interior of the building."

The idea of Prohibition having a tap room in Fallbrook is great news for local craft beer fans who were extremely disappointed when the Fallbrook Brewing Company closed its doors for good in April. Fallbrook Brewing Company's owner had a full-time job as a general contractor and the pub was only open four days a week (Thursday through Sunday) with limited hours.

Adams inquired about the space Fallbrook Brewing Company occupied but it was unavailable. Wherever Prohibition's tap room ends up being located, Adams said he envisions it being open Monday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
