Say no to recall in District 5

In her response (March 24) to my letter explaining water meter ratios, Ms. Brazier uses one of the oldest tricks in the book — when you don’t have a logical or rational argument, resort to attacking your opponent. Nowhere in Ms. Brazier’s response did she deal with the issue of Water Meter Ratios. Why? I expect because she does not want to bring up her friends’ real motive — water subsidies for large commercial growers paid for by small water users. As usual, next week Ms. Brazier will probably respond with more invectives and innuendoes, but I suggest instead she respond to the ISSUES, like the recall effort of Director Robert Glick of District 5. Ms. Brazier’s special interest pals, the “Ratepayers Oversight Committee (ROC),” want to spend another $40,000 of YOUR money to recall a director who has only been in office for about four months. What is Director Glick’s crime that justifies this large expenditure? Only that he is an INDEPENDENT director and does not move in lockstep with the three newly elected people on the board. Further, it appears that by recalling Director Glick and replacing him with a candidate supported by the new board majority, enough votes would be available for this new board coalition to take complete control of the Rainbow District, including firing of the general manager. Recalls are supposed to be about terminating public service of individuals who have committed fraud or have operated outside the public interest — NOT to support the political goals of a special interest group and certain board members. If you live in District 5, I urge you NOT to sign any recall efforts. If Director Glick deserves to be replaced based on his performance, let’s save $40,000 and do it at his next scheduled election. Care to tell us where you stand, Ms. Brazier?
