Art of Flower festival, sports facilities get funds

The San Diego County Board of Supervisors allocated $132,500 of District Five Community Projects funds April 19, including $25,000 for Fallbrook High School athletic facilities and $5,000 for the Art of the Flower Festival.

The 5-0 vote allocated $25,000 to the Fallbrook Union High School District for the facilities and $5,000 to the Fallbrook Village Association for the festival.

The high school facility improvements include a new artificial turf field and track surface which would replace the existing natural turf and dirt conditions, renovation of the gymnasium, and construction of a new and larger swimming pool. The new stadium turf would decrease the cost of maintenance and would also allow for an increase in use of the field, which would accommodate community activities as well as additional student practices, and the new pool would allow for increased use by community organizations as well as possibly allowing high school tournaments to be hosted at Fallbrook.

The Art of the Flower Festival highlights flower-inspired artwork, local artists, and the area’s connection to and reliance on local agriculture. It is hosted by the Fallbrook Village Association.

The allocations also included $15,000 to Rebuilding Together San Diego for materials and program costs to rehabilitate homes of low-income residents in the Fifth Supervisorial District.
