Garden Club presents scholarships

FALLBROOK — The Fallbrook Garden Club has a history of awarding scholarships to deserving students who pursue a course of studies in accordance with the objectives of garden club standards. These standards include being a resident or graduate of the Fallbrook Union High School District and planning a career in agriculture, botany, conservation, entomology, environmental studies, floriculture, forestry, horticulture landscape architecture, plant biology, plant genetics, urban planning or a related field. The following three students have met the criteria for the year 2005:

• Nicolina Prestininzi — Awarded $750 by the Fallbrook Garden Club. She is currently attending California State University Chico with an agriculture business major and a minor in leadership. She has vast involvement in Fallbrook 4-H and FFA and has served as Cal State FFA president. She currently serves as the College of Agriculture Representative on the Associated Students University Affairs Council, a member of Agriculture Ambassadors and the Society of Agriculture Managers.

• KariAnn L. Torres — Awarded $750 by the Fallbrook Garden Club. Currently attending Fresno State University with a major in agriculture education emphasizing in animal science and floriculture. She has a history of raising animals for 4-H to becoming 4-H National Convention delegate in 2002 to Washington, DC. She has graduated from Reedly College with an AA degree in general education certification.

• Brittany Kirchmeier — Awarded $250 toward her education at Mira Costa College. President of the FFA and a leader in numerous areas such as ornamental horticulture. She has won awards at the state level in many areas of FFA. Her future lies in landscape architecture following a family heritage. She plants to transfer to a four-year college such as San Luis Obispo to complete her education.

The Fallbrook Garden Club is a member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc., Pacific Region and the California Garden Clubs, Inc., Palomar District.
