Scoma, Cook named US Lacrosse academic All-Americans

Two Fallbrook High School seniors were named academic All-Americans by the national governing body of lacrosse.

US Lacrosse named Angie Scoma and Nicole Cook as academic All-Americans. Scoma was an attacker on the Fallbrook High School lacrosse team and Cook was a midfielder.

“This is the whole entire US,” Fallbrook girls lacrosse coach Linda Cook said. “To have both Nicole and Angie selected is, I think, the biggest honor of all.”

Players are nominated by their coach. The nominations are submitted to US Lacrosse and selections are made from thousands of players throughout the nation. Requirements include being a significant contributor to a varsity lacrosse team, a cumulative grade point average of 3.7 or higher, and leadership and volunteer service to one’s community.

“To juggle what you’ve done in the class with your athletics to me is just remarkable,” Linda Cook said. “It’s very impressive to see what they’ve been able to do both in and out of the class.”

Scoma entered her final semester with a cumulative 4.17 grade point average. She will be attending Brigham Young University, which has a club lacrosse program, and plans to play club lacrosse for BYU. Nicole Cook had a 3.76 grade point average at the time of the award; she will attend Stevens Institute of Technology and play both lacrosse and field hockey for the Ducks.

“The sports are great, but they go away. The grades and what you’ve learned sticks with you forever,” Linda Cook said.
