Free Crape myrtles offered to residents

Five free Crape myrtle trees will be given to each person from California who joins the National Arbor Day Foundation during January. The free trees are part of the nonprofit foundation’s Trees for America campaign.

“Crape myrtles were selected for this campaign because of their elegant color and form, making them an attractive addition to the home landscape in California,” Foundation President John Rosenow said. “These small flowering trees boast perfect six-petaled flowers of pink and red, with leaves that change from summer green to autumn red, orange and yellow.”

The trees will be shipped postpaid at the right time for planting (between February 1 and April 30) with enclosed planting instructions. The six- to twelve-inch trees are guaranteed to grow or will be replaced free of charge.

Members also receive a subscription to the Foundation’s colorful bimonthly publication, Arbor Day, and “The Tree Book,” with information about tree planting and care.

To receive the free trees, send a $10 membership contribution to Five Crape Myrtles, Nebraska City, NE 68410 by January 31.
