The outdoors needs spring cleaning, too!

It’s springtime and it’s time for spring fire-safety cleaning!

Now is the time to check out yards and homes for fire safety issues and take advantage of the mild climate and spring rains while getting it done. It’s time to:

• Mow weeds around the house

• Prune trees, removing all branches within six feet of the ground and 10 feet from the chimney

• Eliminate combustible agricultural wastes, such as cuttings

• Check or install spark arrestors on gas-powered tools and toys and on chimneys

Although every season is fire season in Southern California, the springtime usually offers some days of mild and damp weather when it is safer to use gas-powered lawn equipment. To check the fire danger rating each day before starting go to http://www.WildfireAlert.org.
