Gerten's letter was good

The truth is, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away after the phone call. No matter how diligent and motivated they are, police are virtually always in a reactive mode. It is not their fault. They have no legal obligation to protect an individual, and even if so, there will never be enough of them.

The Second Amendment is not about guns, as the NRA claims. It is about the inalienable right of the individual to effective self-defense. This is why the DC handgun ban was overturned and why 80 percent of the states are shall-issue in terms of concealed carry licenses.

California is not progressive on this issue but regressive. The reams of clear learning from two decades of shall-issue policies are clear, but the California political class cannot be bothered with the facts or with, really, the safety of their subjects. It is a combination of ego, misinformation, ideology and hypocrisy that makes violent crime in this state safer for the criminal at the expense of the victims.

You look at a Feinstein – with millions of personal wealth to buy all the muscle she will ever need – and the average citizen. They walk different places, lead different lives, and the likelihood Feinstein will personally pay for disarming people is miniscule. Being anti-self-defense is very easy for her. She is giving nothing of her own away. Elitism at its most odious.
